BELA serves notice to 12 govt officials to stop hill cutting

SYLHET, Apr 18 (UNB): Bangladesh Environment Lawyers' Association (BELA) served legal notice to 11 government officials and an organisation to stop cutting of Shah Arpin ® Mazar tila (hill).
The notice of demand for justice signed by BELA lawyer Taslima Islam was issued Thursday.
The notice was served to Secretaries of the Ministries of Forest and Environment and Land, Secretary and Director General of Power, Energy and Mineral Recourses Ministry, Director General of Environment Department, Sylhet Divisional Commissioner, Sylhet Deputy Commissioner, Director General of the Bureau of Mineral Resources Development, Director of Sylhet Environment Department, UNO of Companyganj, Chairman of Pashchim Islampur Union no-1 and M/s Bashir Company.
In their notice BELA asked the respondents to inform within seven days what action has been taken in this regard or else they will be forced to take legal action.
It was alleged in the notice that the Bureau of Mineral Resources Development has been leasing the Shah Arpin tila, located at Pashchim Islampur union no. 1.
