Belgian envoy stresses exchange of visits by businessmen to boost cooperation

Thursday, 19 November 2009

Visiting Ambassador of Belgium, based in New Delhi, Iean M Deboutte has proposed exchange of visits by businessmen of Bangladesh and their country to identify areas of cooperation.
The visit will open investment opportunity for both the countries, the envoy said when he called on Industries Minister Dilip Barua at the latter's office in the city Wednesday, reports BSS.
Besides garments and seafood, the envoy appreciated the government for identifying new thrust sectors, including ship-building, ceramic, leather, plastic, pharmaceuticals and light engineering.
Bangladesh will be able to implement Vision-2021 through developing these sectors, he expected.
Mr Dilip Barua said positive changes were now visible in different sectors in the country following a number of steps taken by the government.
Bangladesh had been excluded from the list of top corrupt countries recently, which was a qualitative change, he added.
Dilip Barua said the government had been working hard for making it a mid-income country by 2021 through industrialisation.
Industries Secretary Dewan Zakir Hossain and honorary consul of Belgium in Bangladesh Golam Faruk Ahmed were present.
In a separate programme, the commerce minister inaugurated a training programme on 'Climate Change and Environment Friendly Employment' at a city hotel on the day.
The National Coordination Committee on Workers' Education and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) jointly organised the training programme.
