Bengal Plastic rolls out new products for local market

The country's largest plastic goods manufacturer Bengal Plastic Wednesday unveiled a new set of household products to cement its position in the fast- growing local market.
The company, which mainly sells accessories to the garment exporters, rolled out 30 products such as bucket, jug, dustpan, bowl, paper basket, cloth basket and dish-rake at a press conference in Dhaka.
Group chairman Morshed Alam said the company had developed quality products in line with the demand of the consumers at home and abroad.
"Our plastic furniture have long won consumers' trust, which will help us popularise our latest set of household products," he said, adding local household plastic appliances market is now worth Tk 10 billion.
"There is a huge untapped demand for quality plastic household products in the Bangladeshi market. We have this time even brought in food-grade plastic products so that the food does not get poisonous."
He said the company targeted to capture at least 30 per cent of the market. "We want to emerge as the biggest plastic household goods producer in the country."
Mr. Alam said the company was unveiling new products as the demand for quality products was growing at a rate of 15-20 per cent annually.
The group chairman said Bengal Plastic is going deep into the rural areas to market their products.
"We have appointed 200 dealers to reach products at the consumers' doorsteps," he said.
He said they would also add the latest items to their export lists after meeting domestic demand.
