BEPZA's role in boosting country's economy lauded

Myanmar's Deputy Minister of Commerce Brig General Aung Tun has lauded the role of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) in boosting the country's economy.
He made the observation while a 16-member Myanmar trade delegation led by him was visiting the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) recently.
Executive Chairman of BEPZA Brig General Ashraf Abdullah Yussuf cordially received the Myanmar trade team and later, briefed them elaborately on the DEPZ activities.
The trade team visited M/s. South China Bleaching & Dyeing Industries Ltd at the DEPZ .
During the briefing session, Ashraf Abdullah Yussuf explained the background of the EPZs, its performance and operational procedures to the visiting members of the team.
He said EPZs are currently contributing 18 per cent to the national export earning.
More than 0.2 million are directly employed in 264 enterprises operating in the EPZs, he added.
The investment, export and employment are gradually increasing, he said.
The trade team expressed its satisfaction at the performance of BEPZA and its operating enterprises.
