Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) Tuesday began a three-day public hearing on power tariff hike proposals from the five state-owned electricity distribution companies.
On the first day, the Power Development Board (PDB) and West Zone Power Distribution Company Ltd (WZPDC) made their separate presentation defending their proposals.
The PDB sought average 15.50 per cent raise in the existing electricity tariff at retail level while the EZPDC sought 8.59 per cent rise.
Analyzing the PDB proposal, a technical evaluation committee of the BERC has recommended an average 6.66 per cent rise in the PDB’s retail level tariff and 7.51 per cent enhancement in the WZPDC retail tariff.
The regulatory body will hear the proposals of DPDC and DESCO on Wednesday and the REB’s proposal Thursday, according to a news agency.
