BERC extends time further for licences

S M JahangirbrThe Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has extended further the time limit by two months for obtaining operating licences for captive standby electricity generators, the Commission sources said.brThe timeframe for seeking licences for captive or standby generators has been extended by two months more until October 31, 2008, BERC Chairman Golam Rahman informed the FE Wednesday.brThe BERC set April 30 as the initial deadline for seeking licences for use of captive generators through prescribed forms and the timeframe was later extended twice until August 31, 2008, official sources said.brIt will the last opportunity … No more time will be given in future as we have already done it several times, the BERC chief said.brHe further said the Commission will take necessary action against the users who will fail to obtain licences for their captive and standby generators within the extended timeframe.brWe will go for tougher actions including disconnection of gas to unlicensed captivestandby power generator if anyone fails to comply with the extended deadline, said the BERC chief. brThe Commission received around 200 applications for issuing licences until August 31, out of which it had already issued around 100 licences.br
