Saturday, 4 October 2014
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) will hold a public hearing after Eid-ul-Azha on the proposal to raise the prices of gas and then come up with a final decision about it. The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has recommended raising the prices of gas at all consumers level. Meanwhile, the BNP has called upon the government to refrain from raising gas prices. A senior party leader warned on Saturday that the consequences of the government’s move will not be ‘pleasant’. ‘The government will not be able to rule comfortably if they add to sufferings of the people by hiking gas price,’ BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told a media briefing in the city on Saturday. If the price is increased this time, then household gas charge for a single burner stove will touch Tk 800 from the current Tk 400 and for double burners it will be Tk 1000 from the existing Tk 500, according to a news agency.
