Berger Paints' Q1 profit more than doubles on higher sales

FE REPORT | Wednesday, 29 July 2026

Berger Paints Bangladesh more than doubled its profit in the first quarter (April-June) of 2026, driven by higher sales, strategic price adjustments and lower finance costs.
Berger, the market leader in the paints industry in Bangladesh, posted a consolidated profit of Tk 1.81 billion for the April-June quarter, up from Tk 856 million in the corresponding period a year earlier.
According to its earnings disclosure published on Tuesday, its earnings per share (EPS) rose to Tk 36.81 for the first quarter of 2026, compared with Tk 18.11 in the same quarter last year.
Berger said the sharp increase in profit was driven by higher sales, strategic price adjustments to offset rising raw material and packaging costs, and lower interest expenses on its Usance Payable at Sight (UPAS) loans.
The company also benefited from a lower effective tax rate and favorable adjustments to tax liabilities recognized in the previous year following the enactment of the Finance Act 2026, according to the notes accompanying its earnings statement.
The multinational paint maker, which follows an April-March financial year, reported a 15 per cent year-on-year growth in revenue to Tk 8.14 billion in the quarter, compared with Tk 7.08 billion in the same period last year.
The net operating cash flow per share, a measure of a company's ability to generate cash from its operations, improved to negative Tk 5.88, up from negative Tk 34.61 in the same quarter last year.
The net asset value, which refers to the excess of total assets over total liabilities, reached Tk 437.05 per share as of June this year, up from Tk 400.24 in March this year.
Berger is continuously investing for the expansion of capacity as well as the diversification of products and businesses. The board of directors has also decided to invest Tk 200 million in its wholly owned subsidiary Jenson & Nicholson (Bangladesh), which manufactures metal cans for paints, food and other industries.
Berger's stock closed at Tk 1406.10 on Tuesday, rising 0.49 per cent over the previous day.
Annual Performance
Berger Paints posted a record profit of Tk 3.72 billion in the year ended March 2026, marking a 10 per cent year-on-year growth, driven by higher sales and a sharp reduction in foreign exchange losses amid a more stable currency market.
Riding on the record earnings, the board of directors recommended a 525 per cent cash dividend for the year, unchanged from the previous year.
