Beximco enters hospitality sector

Beximco Group, one of the largest business conglomerates in Bangladesh entered in to hospitality sector by investing around Tk 1.60 billion in Westin Hotel.
Mr. Salman F Rahman, Deputy Chairman of Beximco Limited and Mr. Mohd. Noor Ali, Managing Director of Unique Hotels and Resorts Limited Wednesday signed an agreement in this regard at Hotel Westin in the city.
The money will be used for expansion of Westin Hotel, one of the popular five star hotel located in city's posh Gulshan area. The hotel is managed by the Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc.
Speaking on the event, Beximco Deputy Chairman Salman F Rahman said: "We are happy to be associated with Westin Hotel."
The fund will be utilized to increase the hotel's room capacity to 441 from existing 241 and building a banquet hall with 2,000 seating capacity on 46 Katha land adjoining to the hotel," said Mohd. Noor Ali, Managing Director of Unique Hotels and Resorts Limited, that owns hotel.
BEXIMCO Group is one of largest private sector industrial conglomerate in Bangladesh engaged in diverse business areas. BEXIMCO comprises of five publicly listed companies and sixteen private companies.
The Group turnover in 2008 was BDT 18.5 billion. BEXIMCO employs 35,000 people and has 230,000 shareholders. BEXIMCO's shares constitute 3.70 per cent of the market capitalization of DSE.
