Beximco Pharma starts export to Philippines

Friday, 31 August 2007

FE Report
Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited (BPL), one of the leading medicine manufacturers and exporters of the country, has started exporting its medicines to the Philippines, according to a press release.
The Philippines is the fifth ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) country after Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar where Beximco Pharma has started exporting its drugs.
The ASEAN is one of the fastest growing economies of the world and the Philippines is the third largest country in the region with a population of more than 80 million.
The Philippines' pharmaceutical market, estimated to be worth US$1.30 billion in 2007, is mostly dependent on imported medicines.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited Nazmul Hassan said: "In our strategic expansion plan, the Philippines, being a member of the ASEAN, is a highly important market. For strategic reason, we are entering the Philippines with difficult-to-manufacture high-tech products like metered dose inhalers and nasal sprays. In the Philippines, we are also registering BPL brands covering strategically important therapeutic groups like cardiovascular, lipid lowering, anti-diabetic, antibiotic and PPI. I strongly believe that entering the Philippines pharmaceutical market with specialised products will certainly speed up BPL's expansion programme in the ASEAN region."
