One of Bangladesh's largest conglomerates, Beximco Group, announced Monday it would launch a new 24-hour Bangla-language news channel in a deal with Indian media company NDTV, reports AFP.
Independent TV will be the country's first news channel since an army-backed emergency government shut down the CSB News Channel in 2007 for allegedly "provocative" broadcasts during nationwide student unrest.
Beximco deputy chairman Salman F. Rahman said the proposed channel had received regulatory approval.
