Beximco to sponsor Bangabandhu SAFF football

It is almost certain that SAFF Football Champion-ship scheduled to start from December 4 in the capital will be known as Bangabandhu SAFF Championship, reports BSS.
One of the leading business houses of the country Beximco are the sponsors of the meet and they have been pursuing for a considerable time to have this tournament after the father of the nation.
The Beximco managing director, Salman F Rahman, confirmed the development a few days back to the sports scribes. 'The name of the tournament will be Bangabandhu SAFF Championship. Beximco will sponsor it. We love to honour the founding president of the country, so, we have decided not to use our organisation's name,' said Salman.
'So far all the procedures are complete but the BFF needs to sort out some issues before making an official declaration on November 19,' said Salman.
A source confirmed that SAFF president and BFF boss Kazi Salahuddin who, after his meeting in Doha, the capital of Qatar last week met Asian Football Confederation president Mohammed Bin Hammam. Salahuddin and SAFF general secretary Alberto Colaco had sought the AFC's approval for the changing name of the tournament.
Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Afghanistan will take part in the sixth edition of the SAFF Championship beginning at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on December 4.
The final is scheduled to take place on December 13.
