BFA urges govt not to appoint new dealers

Bangladesh Fertilizer Association (BFA) urged the government Saturday to ensure supply of all kinds of fertilizers at the beginning of the month and stop appointment of new dealers for particular areas at the union level.
They also called upon the government not to import sub- standard urea fertilizer and allocate fertilizers to the districts against the requirements.
The proposal came at the 20th annual general meeting (AGM) of the association at the auditorium of Officers' Club in the capital on the day.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu while speaking as chief guest urged the dealers to be cautious so that no vested quarter could create artificial crisis of fertilizer and agricultural inputs.
He said that once upon a time there was fertilizer syndicate and farmers had suffered a lot for this particular agricultural input.
He called upon the dealers to come forward to keep the production in farm sector going.
The minister stressed on proper allocation of fertilizer to maintain the continuation of agricultural production.
Terming the present government agriculture friendly, the minister said the government has ensured agricultural inputs for the farmers.
He called upon the dealers to maintain honesty and transparency while doing business.
"I believe that you (dealers) would do your business with utmost sincerity," Mr Amu said.
Chairman of BFA Qamrul Ashraf Khan Poton MP, industries secretary Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah, chief whip of the opposition Sawkat Hossain and vice- president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Md Helal Uddin, among others, were present.
