BFUJ gives opinions on Digital Security Bill to Speaker
FE Report | Monday, 23 April 2018
Expressing concern over the Digital Security Bill-2018 placed in parliament early this month, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) on Sunday gave its opinions to the Jatiya Sangsad Speaker.
According to a statement signed by BFUJ President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, the body presented their opinions to parliament Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.
"BFUJ firmly believes the importance of a modern law to combat cyber criminals but it would be really unfortunate if such law hinders freedom of expression in the name of preventing digital offenders," the statement said.
It said the law will put key things like freedom of expression and freedom of media at risk if the bill is converted into a law by parliament, which will be contradictory to the spirit of the Constitution.
The Speaker assured the BFUJ of taking measures accordingly.
