BGB beat West Bengal Men\\\'s team in friendly Handball

League champions Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) earned an exciting 33-30 goals victory against touring West Bengal Men's team in the first match of the friendly handball series at the Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in the city Wednesday, reports UNB.
The winners were trailing by 14-15 goals in the keenly contested first half.
Sudon Barua scored 10, Sagar Miah 8 and Mir Khairuzzaman 7 goals for the winners while Darshan Bura contributed 15 and Jashandeep Modgil 5 goals for the losers.
On other hand, Bangladesh Ansar and VDP team beat visiting West Bengal Women's team by 22-12 goals after leading the first half by 10-6 goals at the same venue in the afternoon.
Nishi contributed 10, Kohinoor and Rubina netted 4 goals each for the winners while Sonali Majzi and Khushbu Kumari netted four goals each for the losers.
Earlier, State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder, MP, inaugurated the match as the chief guest.
Team leader of West Bengal Handball team Suronjan Kumar Dutta, deputy team leader Soumitra Das, men's team manager Braj Kishore Sharma, women's team manager Benu Gopal Ghosh, head coach Firoz Khan and general secretary of Bangladesh Handball Federation Asaduzzaman Kohinoor were also present on the occasion.
West Bengal men's and women's handball teams of India arrived in the capital Tuesday evening to play friendly series with selected teams of Bangladesh, four each in the capital Dhaka and in port city of Chittagong.
The West Bengal men's team will play Bangladesh Police at 2;30 pm while touring West Bengal Women's team will meet BJMC at 4:00 pm, both today (Thursday) at the Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium.
The Indian Handball team, ranked 6th in the National Championship, will also play four friendly matches, two for men and two for women in Chittgaong.
Touring men's team will play Chittagong district men's team on May 31 at 4:00 pm and will face Boarder Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on June 1 at 4:00 pm, both at MA Aziz Stadium.
The West Bengal Women's team will play Chittagong District Women's team on May 31 at 2:30 pm while the tourists will play their last match against same team on June 1 at 2:30 pm at the same venue.
This is the 3rd time that Bangladesh and West Bengal side will meet each other as such friendship handball matches after 1986 and 2011.
Both the Bangladesh men's and women's teams emerged champions in the three-team handball meet held in West Bengal in 2011, also involving Nepal.
