BGB-BGP flag meeting Thursday
Wednesday, 24 June 2015
The Border Guard Police (BGP) of Myanmar and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are likely to sit across the table on Thursday over return of BGB soldier Abdur Razzak, abducted by a group of BGP troops from Naf River in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district a week ago. The BGP on Tuesday replied to a letter, sent to the Myanmar border force by BGB urging them to hold a flag meeting over repatriation of the abducted BGB soldier. In reply, the BGP sought a list of the Bangladesh delegation that will participate in the proposed flag meeting. The BGP has reportedly not set any condition about possible repatriation Nayek Abdur Razzak, who has been charged with trespass and now under custody of Myanmar police, a source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh and BGB headquarters said. The letter sent by the BGP in reply to one sent by BGB contained the decision taken by Myanmar’s boder guard to hold the flag meeting about possible repatriation of the BGB man. The BGP letter also sought a list of BGB team that will attend the flag meeting, an official of the foreign ministry said.
On the other hand, Myanmar refuted to set any condition to repatriate Nayek Razzak. Meanwhile, Myanmar President’s spokesperson and also information minister Ye Htut jas said Yangon did not set any condition to return Nayek Abdur Razzak to Bangladesh. Earlier, Myanmar had said, along with the BGB soldier, Bangladesh would have to take in 555 victims of human trafficking, who were rescued by Myanmar’s navy in Bay of Bengal off Myanmar’s western coast. Later, Myanmar agreed to return abducted BGB Nayek Abdur Razzaq “unconditionally”. Earlier on June 17, the Myanmar Border police shot BGB man ‘Biplob’ and took another BGB trooper Razzak away after a shootout in the Naf River along the border. Following the incident, Bangladesh’s foreign ministry summoned Myanmar’s ambassador in Dhaka and asked him for action to return BGB member, according to a news agency.
