BGB-BSF talks set to start in New Delhi

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will sit in a meeting with Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in New Delhi from tomorrow (Monday).
BGB DG Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed will lead a 22-member Bangladesh delegation while his counterpart BSF DG Devendra Kumar Pathak will head a 24-member delegation to the border conference, which is scheduled to end on Thursday after signing a Joint Record of Discussion (JRD).
The Bangladesh delegation team led by Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed has already flown to New Delhi. The formal talks are expected to start at BSF headquarters at about 10:00 am in New Delhi on Monday through finalizing agendas for discussion in the conference, a news agency report said.
Incidents of killing of Bangladeshi nationals along the border will be given top priority from the Bangladesh side, while issues related to border security, including illegal trespassers into Bangladesh territory, smuggling of firearms, ammunition and explosives as well as contraband narcotics items into Bangladesh from India through 4,000 km frontier are also expected to be high on the agenda at the conference.
The border guards of the two neighboring countries sit for top-level talks two times every year. The last meeting was held in Dhaka on December 29 last year.
The BGB DG Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed is scheduled to make a courtesy call on Indian Home Minister and Home Secretary on Thursday.
Besides, Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed is expected to take the salute of the march past of BSF Sub-inspectors’ training closing session on August 7. This is for the first time that DG BGB has been invited to attend the function as the chief guest.
The Bangladesh delegation will return home next Saturday.
