Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in the capital on Tuesday evening ahead of Jamaat-sponsored Wednesday’s 24-hour countrywide hartal.
Jamaat on Tuesday called the countrywide shutdown protesting the Supreme Court verdict upholding the death penalty of war criminal Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed.
Sources at the BGB headquarters said around 18 platoons of BGB men alongside members of other law enforcement agencies are patrolling the city streets to maintain law and order.
The 24-hour shutdown starts at 6 am on Wednesday, a news agency report said.
The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday upheld the death penalty of war criminal Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed for killing intellectuals during Liberation War in 1971.
