BGB seize contraband goods worth Tk 130m

KHULNA, May10: Satkhira BGB members seized huge contraband goods worth about Tk. 130 million from different border areas of Satkhira during the last four months. BGB also realized Tk. 57 million as revenue through corridor by importing cattle during the period.
Satkhira BGB-38 battalion source said that the BGB members conducted several drives in different border area of Satkhira district from December 15 to April 30 and recovered these goods.
BGB also recovered huge drugs including 40,000 bottles of phensidyl, foreign made whisky, yaba tablets and hemp worth about Tk. 31.4 million during the period. The drive was conducted in different areas including Goga, Rudrapur, Kakdanga, Hijolpur, Kushkhali, Baikary, Bhomrah, Shakhra and Kalaroa Bazaar.
The recovered goods are biri, saree, long cloth, 3-pieces garments items, ceramics, motor parts, medicines and edible oil.
BGB-38 battalion commander Abu Basir said that a new list is being made of the smugglers of this area and combing operations will be conducted against them. He also said strict measures will be taken against those who collect toll in the name of BGB.
The patrol duty of BGB is now stronger to curb smuggling and human trafficking. He also commented that the law and order situation is good in the border area than any previous time.
