BGB seize contraband goods worth Tk 7b in nine months

The Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) seized almost Tk 7.0 billion contraband items, mostly drugs, in the first nine months of the year, reports BSS.
Apart from drugs, arms and ammunitions including 70 pistols, nine revolvers, 47 guns, 25 bombs, 347 rounds of live ammunition and three bottles of gun powder were also seized.
Besides, the BGB in the same period arrested 1,227 persons and handed them over to police and filed 24,300 smuggling-related cases.
They also detained 8,083 persons including 2,141 Bangladeshis, 145 Indians and 3,652 Myanmar citizens.
Most of the foreign citizens were handed over to their respective countries, while a few were facing prosecution in Bangladesh.
The BGB also rescued 905 women and children while they were being trafficked abroad. A total of 279 trafficking cases were lodged and 13 traffickers arrested during the period.
