BGB soldier abduction: No flag meeting yet
Sunday, 21 June 2015
A flag meeting between border forces of Bangladesh and Myanmar is yet to be held four days after a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) soldier was abducted by the neighbouring country’s Border Guard Police. The two countries’ border patrols exchanged fire on Wednesday on the Naf River in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar. A BGB soldier was shot in the incident, while another, Nayek ‘Razzak’, was abducted by the BGP patrol. Teknaf-based BGB 42 Battalion chief Lt Col Abu Zar Al Zahid said the delay was being caused because Myanmar’s foreign ministry was yet to give any instruction to its border forces in this matter. Dhaka summoned the Myanmar envoy on Thursday and asked him to take measures to release the abducted BGB soldier as soon as possible, according to a news agency.
