BGFCL earns Tk 1.7b profit, approves 14.23pc dividend

Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL), a company of Petrobangla, has earned profit of over Tk 1.7 billion before tax, which is Tk 8.2 million more than that of the previous year.
The company also approved 14.23 per cent dividend for its shareholders for fiscal 2006-'07.
The BGFCL approved this at the 52nd annual general meeting (AGM) of the company held in the city Wednesday with its Chairman Kazi M Aminul Islam in the chair.
The BGFCL earned over Tk 16.95 billion from sales of gas and petroleum products after deducting total revenue expenditure of Tk 15.25 billion including SD and VAT.
The company paid over Tk 15.87 billion to the public exchequer during this financial year, which is Tk 210.47 million more than that of the previous year.
BGFCL Managing Director Shahidul Abedin said the company has undertaken drilling of three new wells and work in five wells under self-financing projects.
On successful completion of these projects, it is expected that the production capacity will be increase considerably and will enable the company to meet up the increasing gas demand of the country.
The BGFCL chairman emphasised raising of working capability of the employees at all levels, rationalising operating cost and increasing productivity.
At present, the BGFCL is producing about 49 per cent of the total gas demand of the country.
