FE Report
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Monday backtracked from its earlier demand for Tk 30 billion bailout package from the government to pay wages and bonus to the workers before Eid-ul-Fitr.
Earlier on September 3, the BGMEA demanded Tk 30 billion as stimulus package from the government to pay wages and bonuses through a press conference.
The leaders of country's apex apparel body at a hurriedly called press conference Monday at the BGMEA office in the city regretted demanding so.
Md Shafiqul Islam Mohiudin, acting BGMEA president said: "We are sorry if any body was hurt by our speech made on September 3. It is actually out of frustration."
He also said their statement on September 3 press conference was completely unintentional and added: "We had no intention to harass the government."
However, acting chief of the BGMEA urged fellow members to pay wages and bonuses before the Eid-ul-Fitr.
He also said the BGMEA had already started a survey to know the actual state of the factories adding: "We'll get field data within the next seven days and take step to ensure that wages and bonuses are paid."
