BGMEA Help Desk opens in Ctg port

Move to offer instant solutions to RMG exportersCHITTAGONG, Oct 31: The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) today launched a BGMEA Help Desk in the port to provide more services and instant solutions to problems regarding export of readymade garments (RMG). Port Chairman Commodore Anwarul Islam and president of BGMEA Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin jointly inaugurated the Help Desk adjacent to the Port's one stop service centre in the port area. Presided over by first vice president of the BGMEA Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, the Help Desk counter opening programme was addressed by second vice president of the BGMEA Siddiqur Rahman, vice president (finance) SM Mamun Kochi and senior officials of the CPA. CPA chairman said the authority has expedited installation of a good number of handling equipment very recently apart from facilitating other services including automation of container handling through CTMS, one stop service counter and help desk counter for RMG sector that has contributed immensely to national economy. He said country's premier port at Chittagong aims at meeting growing demand of the port users to reach its services to its customers. It has targeted to handle some 3.5 million TEUs container by the year 2020 and with that aim in view, the CPA has undertaken massive infrastructure development including procurement of necessary handling equipment. Chittagong Port handled 14, 68,914 TEUs containers in 2010-11, he said adding that the export containers during that time were 7, 39,221 TEUs, which was 21.13 per cent more than that of the previous fiscal.

'Risk Management, Capital Adequacy' course ends
A five-day training course on "Risk Management and Capital Adequacy" conducted by the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) concluded at BIBM auditorium in the city recently. A total of 21 officials from different banks & financial institutions participated in this course. BIBM designed this course to increase the understanding of bank officials about various risks in the banking business and management of those risks by applying advanced techniques, to acquaint the participants with the policy guidelines, techniques and strategies involved in effective management of risks in banking and to develop skills in computing the capital adequacy requirement in line with Basel-II Accord. Dr. Bandana Saha, Supernumerary Professor of BIBM distributed certificates among the participants at the concluding session of the course. Md. Nehal Ahmed, Associate Professor and Antara Zareen, Lecturer of BIBM jointly coordinated the course.
