BGMEA seeks vaccine on priority basis

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has sought Covid-19 vaccine for its members and their families on priority basis.
The trade body in a letter on Tuesday to Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd made the appeal requesting vaccine for a total of 10,000 people that included its registered members and their families.
Since the onset of corona virus pandemic, local readymade garment industry has been going through a very tough time, it said in the letter adding that RMG factory owners are running their respective factories taking risk of their lives to run the wheel of the economy.
Many of the factory owners of the industry has been infected with corona virus while some of them died, it said.
"BGMEA members need health safety protection on priority basis considering their contribution to hte economy of the country," it said requesting allocation of Covid-19 vaccine for its members and their families.
According to media reports, Beximco is importing 1.0 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine for the private sector, alongside the 30 million being imported at the government level.
