BGMEA team discusses port-issues with CPA chairman

CHITTAGONG, July 8: A delegation of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), led by its First Vice-President (FVP) MA Salam, met Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Chairman M Faruque at the Bandar Bhaban Saturday.
The BGMEA delegation exchanged views on different issues like enhancing CP's efficiency in loading and un-loading goods as well as its recent reforms.
BGMEA FVP thanked in the CPA chairman for implementing different reforms under the integrated efforts of the joint forces and CPA with a view to bringing dynamism in the activities of the port.
He specially mentioned steps like decreasing the average staying period of the vessels to 3-4 days, launching berth operator system, abolition of the transport handling charge (THC) realised by the shipping agents and freight forwarders, and fixing the limit of NOC charge in a time befitting manner.
CPA chairman, in his speech on the occasion said, his main aim is to upgrade CP's standard of service. He also emphasised the contribution of the RMG sector in uplifting the national economy.
Among others, Khalilur Rahman, AM Mahbub Chowdhury, Syed Ahasunul Hoque Shamim and Lutfee M Ayub participated in the discussion.
