FE REPORT | Sunday, 24 April 2022

The apex apparel body calls for foreign diplomats to tell positive developments and stories about Bangladesh's apparel sector to relevant stakeholders in their respective countries.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) seeks support to tap the potential of the ready-made garment (RMG) sector, reads a statement.
The domestic garment industry has every prospect of remaining a preferred sourcing destination in the world and continuing its impressive story of growth, says BGMEA president Faruque Hassan.
It continues to pursue excellence in business while remaining committed to carrying forward the achievements made in the areas of workplace safety, environmental sustainability and workers' well-being.
Mr Hassan came up with remarks while addressing an iftar party hosted by the BGMEA for foreign diplomats posted in Dhaka and development partners at a city hotel last Thursday.
Envoys of France, Japan, Australia, Brazil, Vietnam, Indonesia and South Korea, and representatives of embassies like the European Union attended the event.
Mr Hassan says, "Our industry has brighter prospects and we are determined to make every possible effort to seize all opportunities that lie ahead of us."
"In alignment with our objective, our focus is to remodel from labour-intensive business to a value-added one through innovation, modern manufacturing, diversification, technology upgrade, upskilling and reskilling our workforce."
He urges the dignitaries to lend their support to RMG industry to expand market share, enhance business capabilities through collaboration and bring investment in different promising sectors, including high value-added and non-cotton textiles, spare parts and textile machinery.
Mr Hassan also seeks the support of the diplomats in telling the positive developments and stories about Bangladesh's apparel sector to relevant stakeholders in their countries.
BGMEA vice-president Shahidullah Azim, directors and chairmen of different standing committees of the trade body also attended the programme.
