Bhairab to be declared district: President

BHAIRAB, Oct 24 (UNB): President Zillur Rahman Sunday said that Bhairab would be declared as the 65th district soon, as the matter has already been approved by the cabinet and remaining formalities are under process.
"On July 13, 2009, you had demanded to make Bhairab a district and I have discussed your demand with the Prime Minister," he told a meeting at Haji Asmat College during a visit to his birthplace.
Water Resources Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen and State Minister Mahbubur Rahman Talukder, State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Tajul Islam, Nazmul Hasan MP and local Awami League leaders also spoke at the meeting presided over by Bhairab Awami League president Saidullah Mia.
President Zillur said that while he talked with the Prime Minister about the issue, she promptly agreed that Insha-Allah Bhairab would be made a district.
The President said the present government took prompt steps and entrusted the responsibility upon the cabinet division about the matter.
During his visit, the President inaugurated a new school building of Bhairab MP High School and also laid the foundation stones of a project for the extension of the Bhairab Railway Bridge, Shaheed Ivy Rahman Women Hostel at Zillur Rahman Mohila College and the Bhairab town protection dam project.
"Some 12 MW of additional electricity has already been given to Bhairab-Kuliarchar," he said and expressed his solidarity with a demand for setting up 50-100MW of private electricity plant in the locality to revitalise local industries.
Describing the freedom fighters as the best sons of all times, the President said it would be a matter of pride and honour to do something for their welfare. He assured that a `Muktijudha Complex' would be set up in Bhairab for the welfare of the freedom fighters.
Referring to the `Vision 2021' declared by the Prime Minister, Zillur urged the people to work hard from their respective positions to build the nation. "We've to work in a planned way for achieving this goal."
He emphasized flourishing democracy through the strengthening of the democratic institutions and also practicing the culture of mutual respect and showing tolerance to others.
"It's normal in a democracy that different opinions will exist among various political parties but we've to collectively work for the greater interest of the nation," the President said.
