PUNE, Mar 12 (Economic Times): Bharat Forge, the world's second largest forgings maker, has chalked out plans to expand its core manufacturing business and tap the growing potential of the infrastructure sector.
"For us, opportunity in the infrastructure sector is in power, roads or transportation, urban infrastructure and water. We have tied up with a European company to supply ultra-pure water to power plants.
We are working on providing this to hospitals, housing societies and industrial projects," Amity Kalyani, executive director, Bharat Forge, said.
Bharat Forge Ltd is the flagship company of the $2.5 billion Kalyani Group and manufactures forged and machined components for the automotive and non-automotive sector.
"In some of these businesses we could be operators, some where we are solutions providers and in some equipment or component suppliers. We are flexible about that," Kalyani said.
On the power sector, Kalyani said, "For nuclear power, where we have a memorandum of understanding with Areva, we will be pure component suppliers, like Tier II or Tier III since only the government can operate nuclear power plants."
"For thermal and renewable energy, we will be primary equipment suppliers, EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) and even generators. In the renewable energy sector, which is only wind for now, we are already doing all of this through group company Kenersys."
