BHTPA to set up IT park at CU

Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) will establish an information technology park on the Chittagong University (CU) campus.
The 'Chittagong University IT Park' will be established on 100 acres of land, aiming to help boost IT businesses in the country's south east region.
To this effect, BHTPA Managing Director (MD) Hosne Ara Begum and CU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), a statement said.
Senior officials from both the organisations were present at the ceremony at the BHTPA's office.
Under the MoU, the University will provide the BHTPA with 100 acres of land free of charge to establish the IT Park, which would emphasis on software development industry to flourish knowledge-based economy in the Chattogram region.
Besides, there will be hardware manufacturing and IT service providing businesses in the park.
After completion of the development work, a steering committee with the representatives from the BHTPA, the CU, investors, and local administrations will operate the park.
The revenue earned from the park will be spent on its management, research and incubation of new IT businesses.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the BHTPA Director Dr. Khandoker Azizul Islam said the authority has chosen the CU for flourishing IT and IT enable services (ITES) in the country's south-eastern region.
He also said the CU has been playing vital role in research and technical education, in addition to general education.
