Wednesday, 24 October 2007

BNP's expelled secretary general Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan Tuesday thanked the caretaker government (CG) for completing the unfinished task of separating the judiciary from the executive.
Talking to journalists at his Gulshan residence, the former minister said separation of the judiciary from the executive control was a longstanding issue left pending since Pakistan period, reports UNB.
Bhuiyan said the BNP government, after coming to power in 1991, had taken initiatives for separating the judiciary. In 2001 when the BNP again came to power, a committee was formed under the leadership of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and held several meetings, but could not finish the task.
He said all should abide by the Supreme Court verdict. "It's unfortunate that the administrative cadre officers are opposing the separation", he said.
"They (admin cadre officers) should be more tolerant about their demands", he added.
He, however, urged the government to remove any discrimination facing by the administrative officers by striking a balance in seniority and other facilities between admin cadre and judicial officers.
About unity in the BNP, the former lawmaker said he has not received any formal proposal from his rival faction.
He, however, said he wants both reforms and unity in the BNP. BNP standing committee member Mofazzal Karim and party leader ZA Khan were present.
