Bhutan Keen to invest in Jt venture projects in BD

Bhutan has showed interest to invest in different sectors of Bangladesh to boost sustainable development of the region. This was disclosed in a meeting when a six member high official delegation headed by Sonam p Wangdi, director of Economic Affairs Minitry Bhutan called on SME Foundation Managing Director Syed Rezwanul Kabir in the city on Wednesday. "We want to invest in joint venture projects in different sectors of Bangladesh," the delegation leader said expressing hope to work with SME Foundation for the betterment of the SME sectors of both the countries. The present government is sincere in SMEs development, Mr Kabir said adding the proper nursing and development of SMEs' and the SME sectors and upholding women empowerment would help boost income opportunities, strengthen household security, improve living standard, and reduce the risk of unemployment issues. He requested the Bhutanese delegation to import Bangladeshi products such as handmade garments wear specially from Syedpur due to its easy location, jute and leather goods and to invest in SME sectors of Bangladesh under its pubic private partnership (PPP). They also discussed issues on capacity building, women entrepreneurship, poverty reduction and income, job generation, coordination, monitoring system, encouragement and the process of providing necessary assistance and guidance for the SME development.
