Still reeling from the traumas of a devastating earthquake, Bhutan sought Bangladesh's support to its package proposals for taking a coordinated regional stand on climate-change issues at the upcoming SAARC summit in the Himalayan-foothill country, reports UNB.
Bhutanese foreign secretary Daw Penjo sought the support during a foreign secretary-level meeting between Bangladesh and Bhutan at Burimari land station in Lalmonirhat district Friday.
They discussed a range of bilateral issues and reviewed the progress on the decisions taken during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Bhutan visit, official sources said Saturday.
The Bhutanese Foreign Secretary apprised his counterpart that the host country has "completed all preparations" for holding the 16th SAARC summit in April.
Attuned to the current global concern and combat against the calamitous impacts of global climate change, the main theme of the SAARC summit has been composed as 'Environment and Climate'.
Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Mohamed Mijarul Quayes said the Prime Minister's announcement regarding duty-free access of 18 Bhutanese goods to Bangladesh would be effective soon.
Bhutanese ambassador Dasho Bap Kesang and Bangladesh ambassador to Bhutan Mujibur Rahman and other high officials were present at the meeting.
