BIA organises workshop on problems, prospects of insurance sector

The Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA) organised a workshop on the "problems and prospects of insurance sector in Bangladesh : Challenges Ahead" in Chittagong recently.
Chairman of Bangladesh Insurance Association AKM Rafiqul Islam thanked Chief Controller of Insurance Mahfuzul Haque, chairmen, directors, managing directors and executives of different insurance companies for their participation in the workshop.
The BIA chairman said the office of the chief controller of insurance is not only controlling the insurance companies but also working relentlessly as their real friend for the development of the insurance industry as a whole.
Meanwhile, as a result of his personal initiative, Bangladesh Bank issued a circular to all scheduled banks not to seek deposits from insurance companies for their enlistment for doing insurance business. He expressed thanks to the chief controller of insurance for this positive move.
Managing Director of Rupali Insurance Company PK Roy and Managing Director of Prime Islami Life Insurance Kazi Md. Mortuza Ali were the resource persons and they presented the keynote papers highlighting the problems, prospects and challenges faced by general and life insurance companies of the country.
The chief controller of insurance considered the insurance sector as the sector of "opportunity" and expressed the hope that performance of insurance companies would improve a lot bringing about positive changes in the insurance industry after the promulgation of new insurance law which was in the offing.
