Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre (BIAC) organised a training programme on 'Labour Mediation and Problem Solving Techniques for Workplace Disputes' jointly with Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service (FMCS), USA at a city hotel on Wednesday, said a statement.
Chief Executive of BIAC Dr Toufiq Ali attended the one-day training course.
Trainers from Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service (FMCS), USA Eileen Barkas Hoffman and Matt Cockroft conducted the training programme.
A total of 30 trainees took part in the training programme. FMCS, USA distributed certificates among the participants at the end of the training.
The FMCS is an independent agency of the US federal government established by US Congress in 1947 to help employers and unions avoid costly work stoppages and minimise their potentially devastating effects on regional or national commerce. The FMCS, headquartered in Washington, DC, has mediators located in over 60 field offices and ten regional offices across the USA and is best known for its history of successful and innovative advances in labour-management collaboration, joint problem-solving and the resolution of major collective bargaining disputes. In 1996, US Congress recognised this record for pioneering dispute resolution techniques and called upon the FMCS to help other agencies minimise costly litigation by resolving disputes arising under their jurisdictions.
