CHITTAGONG, Sept 12: A dishonest business syndicate is allegedly trying to create an artificial crisis of fish in the market by resorting to hoarding imported fish from Myanmar.
The businessmen reportedly formed a syndicate and started hoarding the imported fish to earn extra profit on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan, sources said.
It is also gathered, a huge quantity of fish had already been stored in different godowns, cold storages and factories of Chittagong.
Sources further said, hundreds of metric tonnes of frozen and other fish are imported from the neighbouring Myanmar every month.
On the other hand, dishonest traders through forming the syndicate imported huge quantity of Ruhi and Katla and hoarded the same in different parts of Chittagong for sale during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan at a higher price.
According to another source, the same quarter was also trying to restrict the import fish so that the hoarded fish could be sold at exorbitant prices.
