FE REPORT | Tuesday, 14 June 2022
Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday, aiming to work jointly to increase Chinese investment in Bangladesh.
BIDA Executive Member Avijit Chowdhury and Acting General Secretary of the BCCCI Al Mamun Mrida inked the MoU on behalf of their respective sides.
BIDA Executive Chairman Md Sirazul Islam presided over the MoU signing ceremony held at BIDA conference room in the city, according to a press release.
BIDA and BCCCI will work on the basis of cooperation for the expansion of Chinese investment in Bangladesh under the MoU.
"In order to increase Chinese investment in the private sector, BCCCI and BIDA will jointly provide research and advice on relevant issues," the release said.
In his speech, Md Sirazul Islam said BIDA and BCCCI are already working together to facilitate Chinese investment in the private sector.
He said China is one of the major partners in the development of Bangladesh and it has been working directly on many government projects.
"Although we have a lot of Chinese investment in the public sector, Chinese investment in the private sector is much less," he added.
"Chinese investors are investing hugely in the outside world and we need to take this opportunity," he added.
BCCCI acting general secretary Al Mamun Mridha said around 700 members of association are working relentlessly to bring Chinese investment in Bangladesh.
