Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said BNP leaders could not sleep after seeing US President Joe Biden taking a selfie with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the G-20 Summit in New Delhi, reports BSS.
"BNP's jumping has stopped. Some 15 years have passed. They (BNP leaders) were looking at America. Their eyes dried up after seeing the selfie. Their night's sleep has vanished. Who will impose sanctions now? The Awami League is not afraid of that," he told a function here.
Awami Jubo League arranged the function at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) to launch its countrywide campaign to collect its new members and for membership renewal.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, as the chief guest, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to hold the next elections depending on the power of the people.
People's love is the only capital of the AL and the party has always a strong position in favour of the country's people, he added.
The AL general secretary said the BNP is taking preparations secretly for the next elections because of its nomination trade.
"A BNP leader is doing nomination trade sitting on the bank of the Thames River. Preparations are being made for elections. And the Awami League never practices conspiracy," he said.
About the recent letter of world leaders on Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus, Quader claimed that Dr Yunus spent US$ 2 million to buy the statements of 160 people.
"Where did you get so much money? This person does not go to Shaheed Minar and the National Mausoleum. He did not talk about the Liberation War, the death of Bangabandhu and four national leaders...he is not found during any disaster of the country. Why do we love him? Why is BNP shedding crocodile tears for him?" he questioned.
The road transport minister said BNP is hoping that a civil society government, like the 1/11 one, would come but it would not happen anymore.
