Bidi workers demand fair pay on May Day

Bangladesh Bidi Sramik Federation has held a rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Wednesday, demanding pay increases and withdrawal of tax on bidi industry, marking the May Day, says a press release.
Presidents of Bangladesh Bidi Sramik Federation Amin Uddin, Vice President Nazim Uddin, Lutfor Rahman, Joint Secretary Abdul Gofur, Abul Hasnat Lavlu, Anower Hossain, Organising Secretary Shamim Islam joined the programe while General Secretary Harik Hossain moderated it.
The leaders said though workers have been fighting for their rights for long, they are still deprived of their fair pay.
They also alleged that the country's millions of workers have to make a living by working in the ancient labor intensive bidi industry which is being destroyed by the conspiracy of foreign multinational companies.
