Bidi workers demand pay hike

The Bangladesh Bidi Sramik Federation has demanded a pay hike for the workers in the bidi industry, says a press release.
The Federation leaders made the demand at a rally marking the May Day, held in front of the National Press Club in the city on Monday.
General Secretary of Bidi Sramik Federation Abdur Rahman, Vice President Nazim Uddin and Publicity Secretary Shamim Islam, among others, spoke at the rally.
They also demanded that the government enact a law for the safety and protection of the bidi workers, lower tariffs on bidi in the upcoming budget and waive 10 per cent advance income tax on bidi.
