Big haul of gold at Dhaka airport

In separate incidents, customs officials at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport seized gold bars weighing around 11:5kg Tuesday evening. Assistant Commissioner (Customs) Ruhul Amin said they noticed the suspicious movement of two passengers of an Emirates Airlines flight which landed at the airport at about 7:30 pm. When they-Rahim and Sharif-reached the customs lounge, the customs intelligence officials found gold bars in their luggage. Ruhul could not confirm the amount of gold. Earlier in the evening, customs officials recovered 12 gold bars weighing 1.5 kg from two passengers-Ibrahim, 25, and Shah Alam, 32. In another incident, Customs Intelligence officials challenged Shah Alam and recovered four gold bars weighing about 466 grams searching his body.    — UNB
