Biggest cattle fair of country begins in Dinajpur dist

NILPHAMARI, Nov 14: The biggest cattle fair (mela) of the country, 'Kalirmela', began on November 8 at Jharbari of Birganj upazila in Dinajpur district. This historic and traditional cattle fair takes place during the Kalipuja festival of the Hindus and cattle traders from all over the country come here to purchase and sell cattle.
Various domestic animals such as buffalo, bullock, bull, cow, bull calf, castrated goat, horse, colt, elephant etc are hugely bought and sold in the fair.
Thousands of cattle traders from Chittagong, Noakhali, Sylhet, Comilla, Mymensingh and others districts of the country flock to purchase cattle from here.
When contacted a visitor of the fair said the fair ground near a river spread over some kilometres in length and breadth have been prepared and decorated for the purpose and various shows and entertainment like 'jatra' and circus have been arranged on the occasion.
