Bijoy Mela in Ctg from Dec 10

CHITTAGONG, Nov 20: Freedom fighters here today demanded state recognition of the Muktijuddher Bijoy Mela, weeks-long victory fair being held for the last 22 years in the port city.
This year the Mela Parishad members have announced a month-long handicrafts fair at the Chittagong Outer Stadium from December 1 to 31 and 16-day reminiscence and cultural functions from December 10 to 25 at the Gymnasium ground of MA Aziz Stadium.
"The victory fair was first held in the port city in 1989 with a vision to uphold the spirits of the liberation movement and it is being observed in most of the districts of the country," said a written statement.
Secretary general of the parishad Badiul Alam read out the statement at a press conference in Chittagong Press Club this afternoon. It was attended among others by vice chairman of Muktijoddha Sangsad central command council Abul Mansur and commander of Chittagong district unit Shahabuddin.
Home minister Sahara Khatun will inaugurate the reminiscence and cultural function on December 10 at the Gymnasium ground.
Colourful handicrafts and products from small and cottage industries will be displayed and sold at the stalls and pavilions of the fair.
