Bikalpadhara candidates in Barisal div join AL, will work for grand alliance

BARISAL, Dec 23 (UNB): Six candidates of Bikalpadhara Bangladesh (BKD) in six parliamentary constituencies of Barisal division joined Awami League (AL) Tuesday afternoon and announced that they would work for the grand alliance candidates in their respective constituencies.
Earlier, on December 17, these candidates resigned from Bikalpadhara Bangladesh and announced that they would refrain from contesting the polls.
They are divisional Bikalpadhara Coordinator Abdur Rashid Khan, also a candidate for the Barisal-6 constituency and former BNP lawmaker of controversial February 15, 1996 election; Barguna Bikalpadhara Coordinator Abdur Rahman Khokan, also a candidate for Barguna-1 and former BNP lawmaker of controversial February 15, 1996 election; Pirojpur Bikalpadhara Coordinator Shamsul Jalal Chowdhury, also a candidate for Pirojpur-1; Jhalakati Bikalpadhara Coordinator Md Abul Kasem Talukdar, also a candidate for Jhalakati-1; Bhola Bikalpadhara President Abu Azam Khan, also a candidate for Bhola-1; and Bikalpadhara candidate for Bhola-4 Sirajul Islam.
The six Bikalpadhara candidates announced their joining Awami League Tuesday afternoon at the beginning of an election showdown at the Sohel Square of the divisional city in favour of AL candidate for Barisal-5.
Barisal City Corporation Mayor Shawkat Hossain Hiron and Shahanara Abdullah, wife of Abul Hasanat Abdullah, on behalf of Awami League, greeted the Bikalpadhara dissident candidates for joining AL.
Principal Abdur Rashid Khan, a candidate for Barisal-6, on behalf of the six Bikalpadhara candidates, said they have decided to join Awami League inspired by the ideology of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and will work for the pro-liberation grand alliance candidates in their respective constituencies.
After joining the AL, the six Bikalpadhara leaders and candidates also participated in the front line of the AL showdown, organised in support of Zahid Faruk Shamim, the AL candidate for Barisal-5.
