Bill on Digital University to be placed in ensuing JS session

The government has prepared a draft bill about the Digital University proposing to name it after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports BSS.
The draft bill also propose a provision to appoint Vice-chancellor (VC) through the president, a highly placed source said.
He said the draft bill titled "Digital University, Bangladesh Act 2014" has dropped the provision to form a search committee for appointing a VC of the university.
"We have already prepared a draft of the Digital University, Bangladesh Act 2014 bill and after finalisation it is expected to be tabled in the ensuing session of parliament for passage," said Education Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Khan .
He said the establishment of Digital University will be another bold push towards incorporating ICT into country's educational system at a time when Bangladesh is moving fast for implementing Digital Bangladesh.
"A number of seminars will be organised before finalisation of draft to incorporate opinion of the experts and teachers and making the university world-class," Khan said.
He said it will be an institute of postgraduate level studies and research, but finally the bill might keep provision of graduation level studies.
According to the draft, country's first ever digital university will have modern facilities including language, robotics and nano technology lab and animation studio and incubator.
It would be a specialised university in the field of science, engineering and technology, information and communication technology and conduct research on theoretical and practical issues, the draft said.
