Biman DGM among 5 held for gold smuggling link

Members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested five people, including a deputy general manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, from different areas of Dhaka city on Tuesday night and early Wednesday. They were detained for their alleged involvement in gold smuggling, Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said on Wednesday. Sources at the DB said the detainees include Emdad Hossain, DGM of the national flag carrier Biman. The other arrestees were identified as Manager Tojammel, contractor Polash and group captain Shahid. In last one year, gold smuggling in airports across the country have become rampant. Almost everyday there was incident of gold seizure. The sources said a team of the detectives conducted a special drive in separate places of the city last night and picked up the five. Details of the drive would be informed at a press briefing later today, Masudur Rahman said, according to a news agency.
