Biman Hajj flights from Sylhet begin

Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the national flag carrier of the country, has started its dedicated Hajj flights from Sylhet.
A flight with 389 pilgrims departed from Osmani International Airport in Sylhet at 4.45 pm on Wednesday to Medina in Saudi Arabia.
The Public Relations Office of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Wednesday issued a press release to this effect.
Shofiqur Rahman Choudhury, State Minister of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the dedicated flight.
Mohammad Huchamuddin Chowdhury, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Religious Affairs, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and Md Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation, among others, were also present at the program.
Biman Bangladesh is also operating flights for the pilgrims from Dhaka and Chattogram airports apart from Sylhet. The flights will land in Jeddah and Medina airports.
This year, a total of 86,527 pilgrims from Bangladesh are going to perform the holy hajj. Biman Bangladesh will provide transportation to 43,899 pilgrims. It is almost 50 per cent of the total number.
