Biman increases flights ahead of Eid festival
Kamrun Nahar | Monday, 3 June 2019
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has increased the number of its flights in three international and two domestic routes on June 2-3 to meet the rising demand ahead of Eid.
The three international routes are Jeddah, Dammam and Kuala Lumpur.
The departure of Dhaka-Jeddah flight (BG4135) on 03 June is at 06:30 am and
Dhaka-Dammam flight (BG049) on 03 June is at 1:15 pm. The departure time of Dhaka-Kuala Lumpur on 02 June is at 03:15 am.
Biman deployed a Boeing 787 Dreamliner instead of Boeing 737-800 for the flight to meet the extra pressure.
Biman general manager (public relations) Shakil Meraj told the FE that there is huge demand for outbound holiday makers during Eid. A significant number of people are performing Umrah hajj also.
"We are not considering one way demand. Rather Biman has increased flights where there is passengers' demand on both ways. That's why Biman is not increasing flights to other popular tourist destinations like Bangkok, Singapore or Nepal," he said.
Apart from that Biman increased flights of Jashore and Barisal routes on June 03.
The high demand has contributed to extra fare which has reached double or more than the regular airfare during this Eid.
Mr. Shakil said that the demand for tickets and the number of air travellers has become double this year compared to that of the last year.
"We are operating 14 flights a week on Dhaka- Saidpur route from the regular seven, 35 flights on Dhaka-Chattogram route from the previous weekly 28 flights, 14 flights on Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route from the previous seven and five flights on Chattogram-Cox's Bazar route from the previous three flights," he added.
