Biman signs deal with Boeing to procure eight aircraft

Making a turnaround, Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited now goes for a massive expansion of its fleet to become a leader in the region through procuring 22 new-generation airplanes, reports UNB.
Out of the 22, Biman Tuesday signed an agreement with a US plane-maker to procure eight aircraft, of them four 777-300 ERs and four 787-8s, and inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for two 737-800s.
Biman MD and CEO MA Momen and Boeing regional director Glen A Green signed the deals and the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Mahbub Jamil and newly-appointed US Ambassador James F Moriarty were present among others at the signing ceremony for the aviation business binge.
In the agreement Biman inserted a provision for buying 12 more aircraft-four each of the 777-300ER, 787-8 and 737-800 models.
'We included the provision of purchase as we see the number of passengers from Bangladesh and outside Bangladesh is going up rapidly day by day,' said a Biman high official.
He explained that the reason for incorporation of this clause is to take advantage of price. 'We just have to order just 24 months before. We will get the aircraft at the same price,' he said.
