Biman to add a Boeing 747 to fleet for Hajj
Monday, 23 March 2009
Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited, the national flag carrier, is going to add a Boeing 747 aircraft in its fleet under ACMI (wet) lease system to strengthen its services during the Hajj period, reports UNB.
Biman has already floated a request for proposal (RFP) in this regard from the airliners, operators, aircraft owners and leasing companies. The last date of the submission of the RFP is April 8.
Biman has started the process of procuring the aircraft a bit earlier this time to avoid the flight schedule disorder during the Hajj season.
It is a normal phenomenon in the country to have schedule breakdown during the Hajj period, with thousands of outgoing and incoming pilgrims subjected to a lot of sufferings.
As per the RFP, the first date of the flight of the leased aircraft will start on October 20 this year. The number of the estimated passengers, to be carried by the aircraft during the Hajj season (October 20, 2009 - January 4, 2010), is 15,000-18,000.
The year of manufacture of the aircraft will not be earlier than 1989 and seat capacity not less than 450.
